Most of what of Wii Know about the Wii U's Features

In this post I'll be telling you most of what we know about the Wii U's features (don't have time--or space--to show you everything) such as the Nintendo Network, Miiverse, Nintendo TVii, and the OS. To see everything Wii Know About the Wii U Console Itself and Its Controllers click here.

User Accounts: You can have up to 12 accounts per Wii U.  Each account has its own save data, settings, browser bookmarks, and play history.

Nintendo Network ID: Each User Account can have an ID.  These ID's are much like GamerTags and PSN ID's as these ID's are used for playing online, adding friends, buying stuff in the eShop (everything bought on the eShop can be used on all user accounts), and Miiverse.

A Quick Overview Of Miiverse: Miiverse is like a mini-board/Facebook& Twitter-for-gamers. Every game & gamer will have a "Page" that you can follow. On this "page" you can post comments, screenshots of a game, and drawings you made, or just talk with other gamers. If there's a poster you really like you can follow him/her and ask them to be your friend. You also have can brag about Wii U Achievements you got (something I'll do a lot :p ).

A Quick Overview Of The eShop: This eShop is even better than the PSN Store and XBLA--at least for devs (we don't know much about the eShop itself: most of what we know comes from developers). Developers set their own prices, determine when they have sales, no payments to update/patch game (it cost devs $40,000 on other consoles). A few more things we know about the eShop include you can download full retail games, you can see HD trailers and screenshots, and games can be downloaded at midnight.

A Quick Overview Of Nintendo TVii:
^TVii won't be available until December.^

What Happens When You Turn on Your Wii U? (skip if you like suprzize)

First off, you will hear this music:

Then you will see the Wara Wara Plaza (where you can see stuff happening in the Miiverse):

Accompanied by this music:

After you're done with looking at that, you have to select your account (you can have up to 12 on the Wii U--Each account has its own save data, settings, browser bookmarks, and play history,):

After you choose your account, this appears (where you can then choose what you want to do):

All Wii Know About the Wii U Console Itself and Its Controllers

The Wii U logo has changed since E3.  As you can see above it is now a slightly darker blue color.
Deluxe Black Wii U
White Basic Wii U

It's been more than 1 year and 3 months since Project Cafe rumors started appearing on the internet, and now the Wii U's launch is approaching fast, so let's look back at what Wii know about the console itself (I'll post a post about what we know about the console's features tomorrow).

Release date: November 18th in the US, November 30th for almost everywhere else.

Price: $299.99 for basic and $349.99 for deluxe (what comes with each bundle detailed later)

Processor: A custom-designed IBM processor.

RAM: 2GB--that's 2000MB--of ?GDDR5? RAM, one GB of that for games and one GB of that for the OS (operating system)--more RAM will be freed up for games at a later time. (The Xbox 360 has 512MB that's shared between both games and the OS, while the PS3 has 512MB, with games using 462MB and the OS using 50MB.)

Supported Resolution's: 480i, 480p, 576p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p.

Graphics Processing Unit: Either a custom-designed Radeon HD similar to the Radeon R700 architecture (3 years newer than the Xbox 360 & PS3's architecture), or a custom-designed Radeon E6760 (5-6 years newer than the Xbox 360 & PS3's architecture).

Media (Discs): A custom-designed disc format that can hold up too 25GB (possibly more--the Xbox 360's disc format has capacities up to 8.7 GB, and the PS3's disc format has capacities up to 50GB). The disc drive can read discs at 22.5MB/s.  The higher MB/s means faster load times (for comparison, the Xbox 360 can read discs at 15.85MB/s and the PS3 can read discs at 9MB/s).  The Wii U is also backward compatible with Wii Optical Discs. One more thing to note about the Wii U discs are that they've got rounded edges, both outside and in:

Storage: 8GB's of Internal flash memory for the basic, and 32GB for the deluxe, supports SD cards (though they cannot store Wii U games, just Wiiware and Wii VC) and USB hard drives (up to 2TB--that's 2000GB).

Supported Controllers: Up to two Wii U GamePads (see below), 4 Wii U Pro Controllers (see below), 4 Wii MotionPlus/Wii Remote Plus, 4 Classic Controller Pros, Wii Balance Board and all other Wii Controllers.

Backward Compatibility: All Wii games and peripherals are backward compatible with the Wii U.

Other: 4 USB 2.0 Ports (2 at front of console, 2 at rear), HDMI 1.4 port (interesting fact: HDMI 1.4 supports 3D images), Sensor Bar power port.

The GamePad
Front of black GamePad that comes with the Deluxe Wii U
Back of black GamePad that comes with the Deluxe Wii U
Front of the white GamePad that comes with the basic Wii U

Back of the white GamePad that comes with the basic Wii U

Dimensions: 5.3 inches high x 0.9 inches deep x 10.2 inches wide.

Screen: A 6.2 inch 16:9 Single-touch resistive touchscreen (see why they choose this below) with a resolution of 854×480 and a ppi (pixels per inch) of 158.

Buttons: It has 13 buttons, A/B/X/Y face buttons, ZL/ZR bumper buttons, L/R trigger buttons, and Select, Start, Home, Power, and TV Remote buttons.

Sticks & D-Pad's: Two clickable analog sticks and one D-pad.

Motion Control: It has a 3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis gyroscope, like the 3DS.

Battery: A rechargeable battery pack that lasts 3-5 hours on a charge and takes 2 hours to fully recharged.

Wireless: Internal wireless transmission based on IEEE 802.11 and NFC (Near field communication chip, not Nintendo Fried Chicken)

Other: Rumble, a 3.5mm Headphone jack, a Volume Slider, a microphone, a front-facing camera, built-in speakers, a IR sensor strip (for Wii Remotes), and a stylus.

GamePad Features that do require the Wii U to be on: The GamePad can be used as a universal TV remote without the Wii U on:

Why the Wii U GamePad uses a single-touch resistive touchscreen: resistive touchscreens are far more accurate than the capacitive touchscreens you use on your phone or tablet, making it better for gaming, plus a 6.2 inch resistive touchscreen costs $30-$40 cheaper than a 6.2 inch multi-touch capacitive touchscreen that you would find on your pone or tablet, therefore saving you money.

Wii U Pro Controller

As you can see above, the Wii U Pro Controller is a bit longer and flatter than the Xbox 360 controller (and it has a different button layout)  Source: http://venturebeat.com/2012/11/07/whats-in-the-box-nintendo-wii-u-deluxe-edition-and-pro-controller/

More pics, including how it looks compared to the PS3 Controller can be found here: http://www.engadget.com/photos/nintendo-wii-u-gamepad-pro-controller-vs-xbox-360-playstation-3-controllers/

Price: $49.99

Buttons: It has 12 buttons, A/B/X/Y face buttons, ZL/ZR bumper buttons, L/R trigger buttons, and Select, Start, Home, and Power buttons.

Sticks & D-Pad's: Two clickable analog sticks and one D-pad.

Battery: A rechargeable battery pack that lasts 80+ hours on a charge.

Other: Rumble.

My thoughts on this controller: It's like a cross between an Xbox 360 controller and a PS3 controller, taking the best parts from both, making it the best classic controller I've ever used.

What Comes With The Different Bundles?

^The Deluxe Wii U also comes with a 10% off all the stuff you buy in the Wii U's eShop, and, by the way, Nintendo Land costs $59.99, meaning this bundle saves you money if you want that game.^

New Wii U Online & OS Info!

Wii U info (OS, and Online info that is) came out today from the Japanese ND:
- When you turn on the Wii U for the first time, you have to create a Wii U user account, with a Mii associated with it.
- You can have up to 10 accounts per system.
- Game settings, save data, browser bookmarks, and play history are all tied to user accounts.
- Each Wii U user account can also be tied with a Nintendo Network ID.
- In order to sign up for a Nintendo Network ID, you must give the fowling info: username, password, mail, date of birth and gender.
- The Nintendo Network ID can be used for: Video chat, eShop, Miiverse, and most other networking services.
- When anyone on your console buys something in the eShop, all user accounts can use it--not just the Nintendo Network ID that bought it.
- On the Miiverse boards you can post ordinary post, game screenshots, and drawings. You can also add a spoiler checkbox to any post.
- You can follow any other Wii U owner you see in the Miiverse boards and register them as friends.
- Miiverse is supported in all Wii U games, though the implementation depends per game. No additional work from devs needed for basic implementation.
- You can Video Chat with anyone on your friend list.
- After you have everything set up, Miiverse Plaza is what you'll see when you power on the Wii U.
- After the Wii U is done powering up you'll see this (see link):

An Analystic Post About The PS4 (Or How I Think The PS4 will be like)

All of the following is based on what has been happening in the video game market lately. It may or may not actually happen.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Will The PS4 Be Released?
Late 2013-early 2014. This answer is not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of need. If Sony waits until 2014 to release the PS4 it will be to late to get a big next-gen market share, even if they can release it in 2013 it will be hard to take a big proportion the next-gen market from Nintendo, by the 18th of November 2013 (based on what I have seen, if you want I can go into detail why I think this), 10+ million Wii U's will have been sold! If they wait until November 2014, 23+ million Wii U's and 10+ Xbox ---'s will have been sold, that's 33 million next-gen consoles sold. And you don't want to get in to a market where 33 million out of the 200 million (<lifetime--7-8 years--next-gen consoles sales combined) units have been sold.
Controller
I'm willing to bet never playing my second favorite game again on this: The main controller will have a touchscreen on it. Why? Because having a second screen makes most games better (example: ZombiU, Rayman Legends, and LBP2).  Sony knows this--the the PS Vita-PS3 cross play shows that--but in order for third-party's to really support the second screen it has to be something that everyone has, and since the Wii U main controller has a touchscreen on it third-party's won't half-heartedly use the screen (won't seem like a wast of money).
Power/Price
Sony can't afford to have another weirdly-built, to expensive, console again. Last year Sony lost $5.6 billion, and the yens doing really good (<that's bad for Sony) so they'll want to play it safe (like they did with the PS1&2) so they will try not losing much money off every PS4 sold (like they did with the PS3) probably just $50. Based on all of this I think the PS4 will cost $350-$400, and will not be a super powerful console. It will be powerful, only it wont be another PS3. Thankfully based on the specs in the leaked Xbox 720 doc and what we know about the Wii U's specs, they wont need to make a super power console anyway (just powerful). For an example of how powerful I think it will be, go back to the 6th gen, only this time in the order will be:
  • Gamecube: PS4
  • PS2: Xbox 720
  • Dreamcast: Wii U

Earlier this year we were told that NSMBU would run in 720p, but today on NSMBU's official website (http://newsupermariobrosu.nintendo.com/) revealed that NSMBU will in fact run in 1080p!

Now we just need Pikmin 3 to run in full HD....

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate VS. Monster Hunter Tri on Dolphin Graphics

Here's a comparison I just made of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Monster Hunter Tri on Dolphin:
It looks like Ultimate will have better graphics and therefor is not just a upscaled Wii game! Though the sittings may be different.  Got the PC pic from here:

Justin Bieber is in NBA 2K13

Why? WHY!!!?!?!? What's the point?!?! AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

In other news, the eShop is down until 8PM PDT.

PS4 Specs and Controller Leaked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two days ago I did an interview with my good friend Mr. Anonymous (he's a famous video game developer), about the not yet announced PS4! So sit back and enjoy the interview!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TechnoHobbit: Hello, Mr. Anonymous, good to see you again! You said earlier today that you had a ton of PS4 info (including the specs, the price, and how it looks)?

Mr. Anonymous: Yep, so first of all I guess I'll tell you the specs:
CPU: An custom 8-core 4.25GHz POWER7 CPU with 4 threads per core, a total of 32 threads.
RAM: 128GB's of GDRR5 RAM for Games and 16GB's of GDDR5 RAM for the OS.
GPU: 8 custom AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition GPU's.
HDD: 20TB's

TechnoHobbit: What............? Oh you got the wrong specs right? Like last time when you gave me the specs for Watson instead of the Wii U's?!?!?!?!!!!

Mr. Anonymous: Nope that's the PS4 specs.

TechnoHobbit: AAAAAAAAAAaaahHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! The fanboys are right!!!! The Wii U will be last gen! In fact the Xbox 720 will be last GEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Anonymous: Good to see that you have seen the power! And that just the basics, here's more details:
The CPU has a theoretical performance of 326.45 GFLOPS, just so everyone knows the PS3's CPU has a theoretical performance of 214GFLOPS, while the Xbox 360 CPU has a theoretical peak performance of 115 GFLOPS, and the Wii U has a  theoretical peak performance of 223 GFLOPS (< leaked info)
TechnoHobbit: Wow.... How about the GPU's? In fact how did they get 8 of the strongest GPU's in the PS4 anyway?

Mr. Anonymous: It's Sony. Here's the specs of the GPU's

Feature
Radeon 7970 GHz Edition
PS4 GPU (remember there are 8 of these)
Graphics Cores
2048
2156
Texture Units
128
130
ROPs
32
35
Clock Frequency
1006 MHz
1035 MHz
Transistor Count
4.3 billion
4.38 billion

As you see customization made the specs are a bit better than the most powerful GPU on the market! To put this difference in to perspective lets look at the 3DMark Vantage scores (bigger is better):

Radeon 7970 GHz Edition
Wii U GPU
PS4 GPU (remember there are 8 of these)
34,216
7012
35,013 Or if you count all 8 of them working together: 280,104

TechnoHobbit: So how many times more powerful is the PS4 compared to the Wii U?

Mr. Anonymous: If you use my very complex mathematical formula....... The PS4 is approximately 70x more powerful than the Wii U in terms of raw power, so that's like 70 Wii U tied together!

TechnoHobbit: There is no way these specs could be true, do you realize how much power this thing would use!?!? And how much it would cost Sony?

Mr. Anonymous: This is Sony where talking about dude, not Nintendo. Sony cares about using the latest and greatest technology, and they aren't afraid to sale the PS4 at a lost.

TechnoHobbit: I still don't believe it. For one why does it need 128GB of RAM? The Blu-ray disc can only hold 128 GB max, so unless they want no loading times what so ever, what's the point?

Mr. Anonymous: Oh it doesn't use Blu-ray, like every PlayStation before it, it is using a new format of disc, this time it's uses HVD, these disc can hold up to 6TB!

TechnoHobbit: And how in the world could they use all this space? And GPU/CPU power?

Mr. Anonymous: One word to answer both qstons: 4K.  Or if you want a more complex answer: the PS4 can run graphically intensive UE4 games at native 3D4K 120FPS, while streaming 3D1080p+ to this!

Behold the PS4 Controller!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TechnoHobbit: AGHHHHHH!!! That looks unconformable..

Mr. Anonymous:  Well it's not, way better then the Wii U GamePad........ and the GamePad is conformable!!! Some details of the controller:

  1. Weighs 380 Grams
  2. The screen is 6 inchs.
  3. Has Multi-touch
  4. The screen has a rez over 1080p, but since the screen doesn't have an aspect ratio of 16:9, I like to call it 1080p+
  5. The screen is 3D like the 3DS's

TechnoHobbit: NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Once again I must say all this is technically impossible, this thing  (the PS4) must use 6000 Watts!!!!! And cost $5000!

Mr. Anonymous: Nope it uses 2000 Watts max, and Sony is aiming for a $1999 piece, and a late 2013 lunch!

TechnoHobbit: Well the console must be huge in order to hold all this tech!

Mr. Anonymous:
Yes, it is huge, about the size of a mini refrigerator. Here is a pic of the prototype:
TechnoHobbit: AHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Anonymous: Bye, now I've got to go and hide from Sony!

I'm Disappointed With the PS3 Super Slim...

I'm Disappointed With the PS3 Super Slim: I was hoping to get a PS3 this year, but sadly it looks as though I have to wait. I was hoping for a 8GB PS3 Super Slim for $150-$200. But unfortunately that didn't happen instead it was: 250GB for $269 with Uncharted 3, or $19 more than the PS3 Slim! Sure it comes with Uncharted 3, but I can already get it for $19 at a store. Sure it comes with 250GB, but all I need is 8GB's (and the 2TB--2000GB--external hard drive that I got for $70). So I guess I wont be getting a PS3 this year, because there is no way I'm spending $269 for 6-year-old tech! Especially when a next-gen console is coming out in 2 months so I'm low on money, and than I'm going to have to start saving for other next-gen consoles or if I don't care for them when they are announced, a big upgrade for my PC.

Mr. Anonymous: OK, I'll tell you...
CPU: 360 3.5 GHz POWER7 eight core processors, or 2880 cores.
RAM: 16 Terabytes of RAM
GPU: None

TechnoHobbit: What............?

Mr. Anonymous: Oops!!!! Wrong specs... PS4 specs... Xbox 720 specs... Ah here we go Wii U Specs!
CPU: From what I can tell it's a 3 core POWER PC with some POWER7 tech added, runs at 3GHz, has a theoretical peak performance of 223GFLOPS, though under real-world gaming environments it's only able to produce about 100-120GFLOPS.
RAM: 1.5GB of GDRR5 for games, .5GB for OS and other things.
GPU: Highly customized E6760, according to some test I did on it, it would have a 3DMark Vantage score of 7012 if it was used on a computer.

TechnoHobbit: Sounds good, I don't have a calculator on me, so can you tell me how many times more powerful the Wii U is? (compared to Xbox 360, PS3)

Mr. Anonymous: In terms of RAW power? 3.5x more powerful than the PS3, 4.3x more powerful than the Xbox 360.

TechnoHobbit: Like I thought! I understand the UK Nintendo Direct is going to be "Phenomeniall"?

Mr. Anonymous:  Yes! Niall Horan from the boy-band One Direction is going to be in the UK Nintendo Direct. It will start with a video of birthday party were Niall is opening presents (tomorrow is Niall's birthday), one of those presents happens to be a Wii U.  Then it turns into a 25 minute long ad for the Wii U (with Niall as the star of course), announcing all the Wii U details that we didn't know before! Including more details on SiNG, like the fact that there are 20 1D songs in SiNG!

TechnoHobbit: Awesome! You also said you have some new Wii U Zelda info?

Mr. Anonymous:  Yes, and it's going to be HUGE!!!! The dungeons are so big they will take hours to complete. Even the characters are going to be huge! Here's some character models they are going to show tomorrow:
How Ganondorf will look like in the new Zelda!

TechnoHobbit: Wow! Why are they sumo warriors?

Mr. Anonymous: The game takes place soon after Twilight Princess. When Link, Zelda, and whatever their names are, take a nice walk in the woods, they find Fi and unleash a curse on themselves that turns them into sumo warriors. Some of them like it, but Zelda hates it, so Link goes on a quest to find a cure for the sumo warrior curse, but Ganondorf stands in his way!!

My Thoughts on the Wii U and the Wii U Experience!

The Wii U Experience!

It was ......AWESOME!!! The Experience it's self was very well done, and they had this awesome glowing table!

The games I played were Rayman Legends, Project P-100, 2 Game&Wario mini-games--Ski and Fruit, New Super Mario Bros. U, and 2 mini-games in Nintendo Land called Luigi's Ghost Mansion and The Legend of Zelda: Battle Quest. But before I get deeper into what I think of the games....

The Controllers
Wii U Pro Controller:

The pro controller was awesome. It feels like a cross between an Xbox 360 controller and a PS3 controller, taking the best from both: super light like the PS3 controller, yet the bigger design of the Xbox 360 controller; nicer buttons like those on the PS3 controller, yet nicer trigger buttons like those on the Xbox  360 controller! And some things that are not found on either the Xbox 360 controller or a PS3 controller, like the Nintendo D-pad, and analog sticks that click really easily.
Score: 10/10

Wii U GamePad:
Awesome! It was way lighter than I thought it would be, almost as light as the 3DS, and PS Vita, and the  design was very comfortable, I could see myself using it for hours at a time. The buttons and analog sticks are like those on the pro controller, aka super. The touchscreen is like a cross between a 3DS's screen and an iPad screen, very accurate like the 3DS's, and super responsive like the iPad's. Overall it's perfect in every way I can think of.
Score: 10/10

The Games
Rayman Legends

This game was extremely fun and made good use of the GamePad (though I used the pro controller). The level I played was this one:
I also enjoyed how it had some rhythm elements. Overall it was my favorite game I played at the Wii U Experience.
Score: 10/10

Project P-100

It was fun, yet it lacked something, then again I only played it for 7 minutes, so I think it will be better if I know the story behind it, and if I played it for an hour. It has very nice, colorful graphics.
Score: 7/10

Game & Wario
Ski

Very fun (and uses the GamePad well). It only took me 19.8 seconds to finish the mini-game, but I could see myself playing this again and again trying to beat my time (and I'm sure there will be more levels).
Score: 9.5/10

Fruit
In Fruit one player uses the GamePad to anonymously control one of the characters on the TV to quietly steal fruit, while up to 5 others try to guess which character is stealing fruit (I was one trying to guess). Fun, but I lost.....
Score: 8/10

Game & Wario overall: Looking forward to it a lot! 9/10

New Super Mario Bros. U
I only played this game for 2 minutes. It was fun, but nothing special, then again that was just a demo and hopefully the game will be better (so far it sounds like it will be).
Score: 7/10

Nintendo Land
Luigi's Ghost Mansion

In the Luigi's Ghost Mansion 4 players using Wiimotes hunt down the player using the GamePad, AKA the ghost. I was one of the 4 players using the Wiimote (and one of the best players). Very fun and hard.
Score: 9/10

The Legend of Zelda: Battle Quest

In this game 2 players using Wiimotes use swords to kill enemies, while 1 player uses the GamePad's gyro features as a bow to shoot enemies. In this one I used the GamePad. The GamePad's gyro was amazingly responsive and accurate.  The game itself was both fun and hard.
Score: 10/10

Nintendo Land overall:  I was surprised at how fun and deep Nintendo Land was, and I'm way more likely to buy the Wii U day 1 if it's bundled. 9.5/10
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now that I have played the Wii U, I'm more excited for the Wii U than ever before, and I think I will get it on day 1. Oh, and I overheard one of the representatives saying that the GamePad was not in its "Final Form," so who knows, maybe the GamePad will look different on the 13th? Now I can't wait until the 13th....

Review: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

(Note: I may sound like a fanboy in this review) I have been wanting to write a review of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, ever since I finished it (6 months ago). It took forever for me to get around to writing it, and I'm awful at writing reviews (that's why it so short), but here it is!:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, is, plainly put, the best game I have ever played. It has the perfect use of Motion controls, beautiful Graphics, awesome gameplay, dungeons, and story (it tells why there are 15 other games in the series), some of the best music I have ever heard, hard puzzles, and enemies that are hard to defeat (something lacking in most games). Not to mention the game lasts 50+ hours!  If you haven't, I highly recomed you go and buy the game NOW!

Graphics: 10/10 The graphics are better than most Xbox 360 and PS3 games!
Dungeons: 10/10 All of them are awesome, but wish there were more.
Music: 10/10 First Zelda game to have orchestral music, and it pays off beautifully
Gameplay: 10/10 AWESOME!
Final Score: 10/10
